Diploma in Optometry is a 2-year health profession that is the study of the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of the eyes, particularly visual and optical symptoms, refractive problems, and their correction with lenses and other optical aids. This program also includes studies in vision screening (eye testing), visual problem diagnosis, orthopedics and vision training, optometrist counseling of patients with partial sight, color blindness, and hereditary vision defects, and the design and fitting of spectacles, contact lenses, and low vision aids. The Diploma students learn basic biological, behavioral, and clinical sciences, particularly those related to vision and the eye. Applicants are then permitted to work in vision care hospitals as part of a team with other ophthalmologists and optometrists to help prevent blindness.
